Interview with OldSchoolPT (DARWIN $PGH)

OldSchoolPT has been with us for a long time. He is a bit skeptical about our ranking system and his continuous feedback has helped us to improve our attributes. DARWIN PGH’s consistent returns granted this trader the 5th spot in DarwinIA last month. Read on to learn a bit more about the trader behind DARWIN PGH!

1. So, tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started and how long have you been trading for?

My name is Moisés, aged 49, from Portugal (yes that guys who won the European Championship against all odds…) I started to trade in the late eighties, with glorious GBPDEM, what a fantastic times! I have 100% occupation in Civil Engineering (Rails and Roads projects), so I have made EAs with my trade ideas.
In last years my best friend, (now partner at OldSchool), supported investments, costs of VPS, and so on…., in order to system can trade 24H a day and be available for all investors in any place… that’s the current situation situation, although I’m considering to become a day trader again, like I used to do 15 years ago.

2. About your trading strategy: what pairs do you usually trade? Do you always trade the same timeframes?

OldSchool is a system that can trade any instrument. In Darwinex I trade EURUSD, EURJPY, EURGBP, GBPUSD, GBPJPY and USDJPY, (because I only have a 2K account), the system usually trades also GBPAUD and Gold, these are the 8 instruments that OldSchool normally trades in “Forex” accounts.
OldSchool can be defined to trade in any time frame, but in Darwinex account all data taken in consideration come from 1H chart.

3. As a trader, what would you say is your greatest strength?

Courage to close and reverse losing positions, without any hesitation, when markets go against me.

4. And your biggest weakness?

Trading in the old fashion way, never taking in consideration any “new” trading theories / systems, of course there must be good ideas, but in general, they are more gamblers than traders with brains behind that “systems”. Of course there must be something important out there, (in the middle of many garbage), that I’m losing…

5. Our algos tell you are very good at when it comes to Consistency & Performance. Any ideas for other traders who need to improve on those attributes?

Any “good” system, at some point, whatever the attributes, must normally get good ranks, I must confess I don’t agree 100% with any of them, (my system have been in ROOKIE rank for almost two years, because I have low points in Consistency), my trades are normally in the market to gain significant number of pips (compared to average systems), and can rest open for 2/3 months.

After the last update on the consistency attribute (Darwinex made a big evolution since the start…), my rank improved significantly, although it is the same system… in my opinion any individual evaluation of one or two attributes is relative.
In case any trader reading this, that is taking first steps, please take some time and Study CALMAR Ratio, (even there are Excel Spreadsheets to calculate it , just Google it…), it is very simple and resumes all that matter, manage your account to obtain values above 1.5 (monthly base) and I can ensure, you will improve not only in these 2 attributes but in all trading aspects.

6. What is the most important lesson you have learnt in your trading career?

The Markets are always right, traders only a few times…

7. Finally, any comment you’d like to share with the fellow traders who read this?

Trading, in general, its a hard work. To be consistent & profitable on “Forex” is even harder, all that suddenly geniuses and visionaries, that inundate social trading now a days, can take in consideration that its only a question of time for markets to eat them… if you want to be part of the survivors, be patient, make plans that suit your trading style, follow them always, optimize them every day and get ready for a long run… luck takes a lot of work and time!
