Interview with ValeryS (DARWIN $OOA)
ValeryS is the trader behind DARWIN OOA. With a track record that begins in April 2013, migrated to Darwinex in October 2015, $OOA is included in the predefined filter “Return > 50%” and has had long periods with a D-score over 70.
So, tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started and how long have you been trading for?
My name is Valery and I am 48 years old. I’m a mathematician, Ph.D. I’ve almost 10 years of experience in trading and investment.
About your trading strategy underlying OOA: what pairs do you usually trade? Do you always trade the same timeframes?
I trade XAU/USD on M15, H1, and H4. Several trend and counter-trend strategies are used. Some of them are fully automated. All the strategies were optimized on 10-15 years’ history.
What would you say is your greatest strength?
A very strong mathematical background.
And your biggest weakness?
Sometimes I rely too much on my greatest strength (see above). That is my biggest weakness.
Our algos tell that your DARWIN OOA has a very good grade in Risk stability (Rs). Any ideas for other traders who need to improve on this attributes?
Improving the trading strategy, I do not focus on any particular attribute. I work with the main statistical indicators only: profit factor, expectancy, average win/loss, etc. By providing good basic indicators on a long-term interval, you guarantee the acceptable values for all the auxiliary attributes.
What is the most important lesson you have learnt in your trading career?
The most important lesson is that trifles do not exist in trading. Any small mistake can be costly.
Any books you like to recommend to fellow traders?
Books on trading will not help you develop profitable strategies. Read classics – take a rest from trading.
Finally, any comment you’d like to share with the fellow traders and investors who read this?
I want everyone to experience a lot of positive emotions from trading and investment with Darwinex!
Any specific questions you would like to ask ValeryS? Leave them as comments and we’ll try to get you the answer!
